Connect TOM: Live Sync and manual upload
On this page
This guide covers how to get your event roster into Ruloo: kept in sync automatically with Live Sync (recommended), or as a manual upload.
Getting started
After creating your event, select Connect TOM from the left navigation bar. Live Sync is at the top; the manual upload box is below it.
Method 1: Live SyncRecommended
Live Sync watches TOM's .tdf file from your browser and imports it automatically whenever pairings or results change, so there's nothing to re-upload between rounds and nothing to install.
Note: Live Sync works in Chrome, Edge, and other Chromium-based browsers on a computer. It isn't supported in Safari or Firefox.
Step 1: Turn on Auto Save in TOM
Live Sync picks up changes when TOM saves its .tdf file, so set TOM to save automatically at a short interval.
- 1Log in to TOM using your ID number.
- 2Open
File > Edit Profile. - 3Under Preferences, set
Auto Save (min)to 1. - 4Click Save.
File > Edit Profile.Auto Save (min) to 1, then click Save.Step 2: Start Live Sync
- 1On the computer running TOM, open Connect TOM in Ruloo and click Start Live Sync.
- 2A small Live Sync window opens. Click Choose file to watch.
- 3In the file picker, select TOM's
.tdffile for this event.
Step 3: Let it run
Once a file is selected, Live Sync checks it every 15 seconds and imports automatically whenever something real changes. The window shows its status, Watching or Paused, along with the file name, and has Pause, Resume and Stop buttons.
- You can close Connect TOM, or even the event tab, and keep using Ruloo. Live Sync keeps running as long as its own window stays open.
- Open event pages, yours and your judges', update on their own after each import.
- Reopen Connect TOM anytime and click Bring Live Sync window to front to check on it.
Important: Keep the Live Sync window open for the whole event. Closing it stops syncing, and you'll need to start Live Sync and choose the file again.
If Live Sync asks "This might be the wrong file"
Ruloo compares the event name inside the file with the event you're importing into. If they don't share a word, it asks before importing, in case you picked another event's file.
- Proceed anyway: if the names just differ (for example, you renamed the event). Live Sync then keeps importing that file without asking again while the window stays open.
- Cancel: if it's the wrong file. Live Sync asks again the next time the file changes.
Method 2: Manual upload
Manual upload works in any browser, but you need to re-upload the file after each round to keep Ruloo current.
- 1Drag and drop your TOM
.tdffile into the upload box, or click Choose .tdf file. - 2Repeat this after each round so Ruloo reflects the latest pairings and standings.
